At 3:00am a mysterious green gas starts filling up a building. The gas doubles in volume every minute. At what time was the building half full?

P.S. If you're wondering, you don't need to know the volume of the building or anything else.

Hey, I told her this riddle...OK, I'll rephrase it.

One morning at exactly 3 am, a mysterious green gas started coming in from a vent in a building. The green gas doubles in volume every minute, and by 4 am it was completely full. There were no people in the building when this happened. At what time was the building half full of green gas?

Hints: The volume doesn't matter, you don't need to know the volume of the gas or the size of the building.

If it came from a vent then it was already inside the building.

OMG I cannot believe you guys don't get it... answer is 3:59 A.M.

why?

Every minute, the gas takes up twice as much as its current volume. When the building was full at 4 AM, then half of it was there a minute ago leading to 3:59. Am I making any sense? Just think about it. 3:59-half of building/rate- 1 minute = 2x volume/4:00- full

Guess that clears things up.

You forgot the part that if he opened the package 15 seconds earlier he would still be alive.
